This electric car was a game changer when it was new, and now it’s a used bargain

Car changing is a big deal
It’s still a great-looking car with a lovely interior, and you can pick up a second-hand example for half the price of a new one.
When I first drove the Kia EV6 back in 2021 it was so impressive that I said to just go ahead and buy it, and I stand by that verdict today. It’s still one of the best electric cars on the market, and it’s now been around long enough for used prices to come down.
After a quick look on Carwow I found plenty of 2022 examples floating around the £20,000 mark, which is almost half the price of a new EV6. You’ll be looking at a base-spec Air version for this money, but those models still do come with a good amount of standard kit.

You get adaptive cruise control, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heated seats and LED lights. Up your budget to £25,000 and you can get the GT-Line, which gets some sporty styling upgrades on the outside and half leather seats with suede inserts.
So what makes the EV6 so good? Well I love the styling for starters. It looked super futuristic when it was new, and it still does now. The 2024 update brought a new front end, but I’m not sure it’s necessarily an improvement over the original.

The interior is also lovely. Material quality is great, you get a generous amount of tech and it’s really practical. There’s loads of cabin storage and rear legroom is excellent. The boot is a decent size, although a Skoda Enyaq offers slightly more luggage space.
That brings me onto the EV6’s bad points, starting with rear visibility. That sporty sloping roofline means you get massive rear pillars which block the view over your shoulder. It’s also not quite as comfortable as a Hyundai Ioniq 5 thanks to a slightly firmer suspension setup.

The upside to this is that the EV6 handles quite well on a country road, and it’s still a great motorway cruiser. It also has an official range of 328 miles, and around 300 miles is easily achievable in the real world.
So if you’re looking for a bargain electric car, a used Kia EV6 is a great option. It ticks all the boxes and won’t break the bank.
Used Kia EV6 alternatives
Not convinced by the Kia EV6? Here are three other great used EVs to consider for less than £25,000.
Hyundai Ioniq 5

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is very similar to the EV6 under the skin, and it offers similarly bold styling. It’s also comfortable to drive, spacious inside and really well-equipped – however it doesn’t have the best range.
Skoda Enyaq

If you’re looking for a hugely practical electric car then the Skoda Enyaq is hard to beat. You get a massive boot, acres of rear seat space and plenty of cabin storage. It may not be the most exciting thing to look at, but it’s a super-comfy EV which is easy to drive.
Tesla Model Y

How about the space-aged Tesla Model Y? It’s one of the most high-tech EVs around, offers great practicality and you get access to Tesla’s excellent Supercharger network. It’s not as comfortable as a Kia EV6, but the boot is far bigger.
