Drag race: Audi RS6 vs Awesome GTI tuned RS6

March 26, 2021 by

How do you improve on the Audi RS6? This high-performance German estate isn’t just a monster in straight lines, but it’ll tear up corners too — all with enough room for your kids and the family dog in the back.

Well, tuning company Awesome GTI reckons a £5,000 tuning package should do the job and its take on the uber estate is lining up against the standard car in today’s drag race to find out just how effective it’s been.

Awesome GTI has taken the standard RS6 and fitted some new bits to its 4.0-litre V8, including tweaking its ECU, strapping on a new exhaust system and giving it fresh lungs in the form of new performance air filters.

This means power is up from a measly 600hp in the base car to 700hp, with its 800Nm torque figure rising to 1,000Nm.

Otherwise, though, the Awesome GTI RS6 is the same as Mat’s factory-fresh long-termer. Weight clocks in at 2,075kg, and power is still sent to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

It turns out though, the standard gearbox doesn’t take too kindly to these modifications — with Awesome GTI actually blowing up its automatic unit when it started developing its upgrade. It means the power increase has had to be restricted for the first 30 metres of driving, so how much of an effect will that have when going toe-to-toe with the standard car?

Well, to find out, you’ll have to watch on…
