Tesla Cybertruck vs Porsche 911 drag race: is weight more important than power?

April 15, 2025 by

When talking about performance, which is most important – power or weight? Well to find out I’m going to drag race the Porsche 911 Carrera against a Tesla Cybertruck.

These two cars may seem like complete polar opposites, and they are. The Porsche is be over 200hp down on the Cybertruck, but it also weighs half as much. Let’s take a closer look at the stats.

Tesla Cybertruck

This Tesla Cybertruck has two electric motors which put out a combined 608hp. You can also get the tri-motor Cyberbeast model with 845hp, however this lower-powered version will still do 0-60mph in just 4.1 seconds.

It may be powerful, but the Cybertruck weighs in at a colossal 3,009kg, the same as some HGVs. That is until one of the body panels falls off.

Porsche 911 Carrera

The Porsche 911 Carrera couldn’t be much different to the Cybertruck if it tried. It’s powered by a revvy 3.0-litre turbocharged flat-six engine with 394hp and 450Nm of torque, and this is sent to the rear wheels only via an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

At 1,520kg, the Carrera weighs almost half as much as the Tesla, giving it a power-to-weight ratio of 260hp per tonne. The Tesla on the other hand works out to 202hp per tonne, so this race will be closer than you might think.

I’ll be driving the 911 in this race – I am a bit of a Porsche fanboy after all. Make sure you watch the video to find out what happens.
