Drag race: 650hp Chevrolet Camaro vs 735hp Ford Mustang vs 650hp Dodge Challenger SRT
September 04, 2021 by Ryan Hirons
The Chevrolet Camaro, Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger need no introduction. You almost certainly know just how fierce the rivalry between these cars is out of the factory.
Today’s drag race just heightens that, bringing seriously modified examples of each to the gruelling carwow secret runway.
Representing the Chevrolet Camaro is an example with its 6.2-litre V8 juiced up to produce 650hp and 600Nm of torque. That’s sent to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox, with the total weight of the car coming in at 1,656kg.
Lining up next to that is a Ford Mustang whose owner has nicknamed it ‘King Cobra’. Appropriate, considering its now-supercharged 5.0-litre V8 produces a stonking 735hp and 690Nm of torque.
Its six-speed automatic gearbox also drives the rear wheels, though it does come in heavier than the Camaro at 1,775kg.
Last but certainly not least is the Dodge Challenger SRT. It has a 6.4-litre V8 with an uprated supercharger, kicking out 650hp and 600Nm of torque. Like the Camaro, it uses an eight-speed automatic gearbox (again powering the rear wheels) though it’s by far the heaviest at 1,900kg.
Which of these muscle kings wears today’s crown? Well, you’ll need to watch to find out…
