Drag race: BMW M2 Competition vs BMW M240i
May 04, 2022 by Jamie Edkins
Does the new BMW M240i have what it takes to beat the old, full-fat BMW M2 on the drag strip? You’re in the right place to find out.
Today, Mat finds himself behind the wheel of a BMW M2 Competition. Under the bonnet you’ll find a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged straight-six engine with 410hp and 550Nm of torque. It’s rear-wheel-drive only and sends it’s power through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox with launch control. It’s also the lighter car, tipping the scales at 1,575kg.
By comparison, it doesn’t look like the new BMW M240i stands a chance. It’s 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six has 374hp and 500Nm of torque. It’s heavier than the M2 as well, coming in at 1,690kg. However, the M-light is packing a secret weapon, in the form of all-wheel-drive. Pair this with the launch control system and it should get off the line quicker.
But will that be enough to take down the M2? You’ll have to watch the race to find out.
