Bugatti Chiron drag race: Super Sport vs Pur Sport
April 19, 2025 by Mat Watson

When you think “world’s fastest car”, those of you who grew up in the 2000s Top Gear era will immediately think of Bugatti. It’s been making ludicrously fast cross-continental cruisers for decades now, but today we’ll be focussing on the Chiron.
There have been a lot of different variants of the Chiron over the years, and I’ve got two of the best here: the Super Sport and the Pur Sport. But which is fastest in a drag race? Well I’m going to find out. Let’s take a closer look at the stats.
Bugatti Chiron Super Sport
Powering the Super Sport is an 8.0-litre quad-turbocharged W16 engine with 1,600hp and 1,600 Nm of torque. That’s about five times more power than you’d get in something like a Volkswagen Golf R, and it’s 600hp more than a Ferrari SF90.

This is sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, and the car weighs in at a hefty 1,995kg. At least you’ll shed some weight from your wallet when you buy this car, because it costs £5 million.
Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport
The Chiron Pur Sport has the same 8.0-litre quad-turbocharged W16 engine as the Super Sport, only it has to make do with 1,500hp. It’s a wonder it can move with just 500hp more than a Formula 1 car.

Just like the Super Sport it has all-wheel drive and a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, and it costs the same £5 million. The Pur Sport does have a slight weight advantage as well, tipping the scales at 1,945kg.
Bugatti Chiron Super Sport vs Pur Sport: what’s the difference?
With such similar stats you may be wondering what the difference is between these cars. Well they’re actually designed for very different purposes.
The Chiron Super Sport is optimised for top speed. It can reach up to 273mph, and there was also a 300+ version which could do a crazy 304mph.
By comparison, the Pur Sport has a top speed of 218mph. This is because it was built for handling on a track, and it’s for this reason that it has shorter gear ratios than the Super Sport, allowing it to accelerate faster.
It’ll do 0-60mph in 2.3 seconds, whereas the Super Sport will take 2.4 seconds. It’s only a small difference, but it could make all the difference in a drag race. Make sure you check out the video to see which car wins.
