Drag race: Tesla Model X vs Nissan GT-R Nismo

Can a family friendly SUV really be faster than a purebred sports car? Well today we’ll find out as we pitch the Tesla Model X against a Nissan GT-R.

For today’s drag race Mat will be piloting the Tesla Model X. Being the Ludicrous Plus model, it gets two electric motors with a combined 670hp and 970Nm of torque. This power is sent to all four wheels and launch control helps it to get off the line quickly. It needs all the help it can get though, thanks to a weight figure of 2,572kg.

Going up against the Tesla, we have a Nissan GT-R Nismo. Being the track focussed special edition, it gets a tweaked 3.8-litre V6 compared to the standard GT-R to deliver 600hp and 650Nm of torque. It’s a lot lighter than the Model X, tipping the scales at 1,703kg and it has a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox with launch control.

So which will come out on top? Will the all-out power of the Tesla be enough? Or will the light-weight Nissan pull away? You’ll have to watch the video to find out.
