Track battle: Mercedes S500 vs Mercedes EQS
November 02, 2021 by Jamie Edkins
Petrol or electric, which is best for the track? You’ll find out as Mat pits the Mercedes EQS against the new S-Class head-to-head.
Representing internal combustion is a Mercedes S500 Long-Wheelbase. It has a 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six engine firing out 435hp and 520nm of torque. This is sent to all four wheels via a 9-speed automatic gearbox. It weighs in at 2,065kg, which makes it the lightest here (surprisingly.)
The huge 108kWh battery in the Mercedes EQS means it weighs 2,480kg. This battery feeds a single motor that drives to the rear wheels. It puts out 330hp and 570nm of torque.
The EQS seems to be starting on the back foot then, but maybe the instant power delivery of an electric motor will give the EQS an edge out of the corners. So which will win? You’ll have to watch the video to find out.
