The 7 best Jaecoo 7 alternatives in 2025
March 31, 2025 by Tom Wiltshire

The Jaecoo 7 is the first car from a new brand, which is usually a sign that it’s going to be rubbish. However, Jaecoo’s parent company Chery is one of the world’s largest car manufacturers, so it has plenty of experience. As a result, the Jaecoo 7 is really rather good – it’s practical inside, not bad to drive, and comes with a very interesting plug-in hybrid engine option that delivers outstanding range for long-distance driving.
But you may have reservations – the Jaecoo brand isn’t exactly well-known in Europe, and the dealer network isn’t particularly expansive just yet either. The Jaecoo 7 isn’t the best car in its class to drive, and though it’s good value it’s far from the cheapest model out there. So what should you buy if these are dealbreakers? Here are seven of the best alternatives.
Citroen C5 Aircross

The C5 Aircross is one of the best family SUVs you can buy. That’s thanks mainly to its flexible interior, which has three separate rear seats instead of a single bench – so you’re able to balance passenger and luggage space, or even fit three child seats abreast.
It’s available as a plug-in hybrid, like the Jaecoo 7, but has a more straightforward interior with a decent touchscreen and some well-chosen physical switchgear. It’s also superbly comfortable to drive thanks to Citroen’s clever hydraulic suspension. Despite all this, it’s fantastic value, even next to the Jaecoo.
MG HS

The last generation of MG HS was a car you wouldn’t have wanted to recommend under almost any circumstances, but the latest model is a huge improvement. Not only is it quite a handsome SUV, but the interior is roomy, comfortable and looks much posher than the price tag would suggest.
There’s a regular petrol engine, which is the cheapest option, but you can also get a plug-in hybrid with a fantastic 75 miles of electric range – 25 more than the Jaecoo 7 manages. That means really low fuel bills as long as you plug in regularly.
Skoda Karoq

The Skoda Karoq has always been highly rated for its no-nonsense approach to family practicality, and it’s packed with clever touches that just make life a bit easier.
Sure, it’s slightly more expensive than the Jaecoo 7, especially when you take standard equipment into account, but you do feel as though you’re getting what you pay for thanks to its quality interior, comfortable drive and general feeling of solidity.
Nissan Qashqai

The Nissan Qashqai is one of those cars that doesn’t stand out in any particular way, but that applies to the bad as well as the good – simply put, there are no features to annoy you or irritate you, making it a really pleasant ownership experience.
There’s an e-Power hybrid version, or the more standard 1.3-litre mild hybrid which can be had as an automatic or with four-wheel drive. All models get an excellent Google-powered infotainment system, though, and price-wise it’s comparable to the Jaecoo.
Hyundai Tucson

If you think the Jaecoo 7 looks eyecatching then just wait til you get a load of the Hyundai Tucson. With its LED-laden front grille and rear lightbar, it’s a really futuristic-looking SUV, and that impression continues on the inside thanks to its ultra-wide infotainment setup.
Petrol, hybrid or plug-in hybrid versions are available depending on what kind of driving you do, but all of them come with a long warranty and low running costs.
Kia EV3

What if you like the thought of the Jaecoo 7 but you want a fully electric car? Look no further than the Kia EV3. Not only does it have a similar boxy look to the Jaecoo, it’s pretty comparable in size.
It’s also one of the best electric cars you can buy today, with a long range of up to 375 miles in the big-battery model. It’s well built, practical, and good to drive – and though it’s more expensive than the Jaecoo 7, the lower running costs of an electric car will soon close the gap.
Or is it worth waiting for…
Dacia Bigster

You needn’t wait too long before the Dacia Bigster arrives. The larger sibling to the Duster SUV, the Bigster majors on family-friendly practicality and outright space – all for a price tag that undercuts the Jaecoo 7.
We’ve already driven the Bigster and found it to be excellent – it’s comfortable, and the hybrid engine is very efficient. There’s no PHEV option, which could be a dealbreaker, but you can specify four-wheel drive.
