Drag race: Audi R8 GT vs Audi RS6 GT

The Audi R8 is dead – RIP to one of the best all-round supercars of all time. To send the iconic model out with a bang, Audi created this GT version which is the most hardcore edition ever made.

But the R8 isn’t the only fast Audi bowing out, because the RS6 Avant is also living on borrowed time. This V8 wagon will be replaced next year by the new RS7, and the RS6 name will be given to an electric model. In light of this, Audi created the RS6 GT as a farewell to this much-loved car.

But which of these ultra-rare fast Audi’s is the quickest in a drag race? Let’s take a closer look at the stats…

Audi R8 GT

The Audi R8 GT is powered by the same 5.2-litre naturally-aspirated V10 engine as the standard car, only here it’s pumping out 620hp and 565Nm of torque. That’s 50hp more than the R8 Performance gets as standard.

Unlike most other R8s, the GT sends all of its power to the rear wheels only – which could make the launch tricky. It has the same seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox though with launch control, and it tips the scales at 1,570kg. Before the GT sold out, it would have cost £210,000.

Audi RS6 GT

Under the bonnet of the RS6 GT you’ll find a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 with 630hp and 850Nm of torque, which is exactly the same output as the normal RS6 Performance. It’s ever so slightly quicker to 60mph than that car thanks to a slight reduction in weight – the GT comes in at 2,075kg compared to 2,090kg in the Performance.

Power is sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, and like the R8 this estate car has launch control. Just 660 of these cars will ever be built, and they cost £176,975 each.
