Drag race: Manhart BMW M4 CSL vs Manhart BMW XM Label Red
September 07, 2024 by Jamie Edkins
We’ve got hold of the BMW XM Label Red and the BMW M4 CSL for a drag race, and while this may seem like an odd pairing at first there is a method to our madness.
You see these cars have both been fettled by Manhart, the bonkers German tuning firm which takes BMW’s M cars and makes them even more crazy. The work it’s done means that this race could be a lot closer than you’d think.

Let’s take a closer look at this behemoth SUV. The BMW XM is powered by a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine paired to an electric motor which usually puts out a combined 748hp and 1,000Nm of torque.
This wasn’t enough for Manhart, so it’s fitted a new ECU which boosts power to 800hp and 1,100Nm of torque. This is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox, and the car weighs a colossal 2.7 tonnes. It also costs around £210,000.

The BMW M4 CSL is two cylinders down on the XM. It’s powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged straight-six engine which usually puts out 550hp and 650Nm of torque. Like with the XM though, Manhart looked at this and thought it was a bit meek.
It’s therefore fitted a new ECU, a carbon fibre intake, new downpipes and new catalytic converters. As a result this car is now pushing 702hp and 880Nm of torque to the rear wheels only via an eight-speed gearbox. The M4 may be down on power, but it’s almost 1,100kg lighter tipping the scales at 1,625kg. It is more expensive though, with this particular car making a £227,000 hole in your wallet.
So which of these cars will come out on top? You’ll have to watch the video to find out!
