Drag race: Mercedes-AMG GT vs Hyundai Ioniq 5 N
July 20, 2024 by Jamie Edkins
The new Hyundai Ioniq 5 N somehow looks even more futuristic than the standard Ioniq 5, and it’s one of the most fun electric cars to drive on a twisty road.
That’s not going to come into play on our arrow-straight runway, but the 5 N is packing plenty of power for its drag race against the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S. Let’s take a closer look at these cars.
New Hyundai Ioniq 5 N
Mat’s made a beeline for the Hyundai today, and it’s packing two electric motors which send 650hp and 770Nm of torque to all four wheels. With no gearbox in the way, the launch should be rapid.
The weight could hinder the Ioniq 5 though, because it tips the scales at 2,235kg. It’s not ludicrously expensive though considering the performance, prices start from £65,000.
Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S
The Mercedes-AMG GT seems like a bit of a dinosaur compared to the futuristic electric car parked next to it, but it’s got plenty of bite. Under the bonnet is a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 with 585hp and 800Nm of torque.
This is sent to all four wheels via anine-speed multi-clutch gearbox, and the AMG GT is lighter than the Hyundai to make up for the lower power figure. It weighs in at 2,130kg. It’s also £100,000 more expensive.
So which os these cars will come out on top? You’ll have to watch the video to find out.
