Drag race: Lamborghini Aventador SV vs tuned Toyota GR Yaris
August 03, 2024 by Jamie Edkins
Is it possible to make a hot hatchback faster than a V12 supercar? Well we’ve got hold of a Toyota GR Yaris which has been overhauled by tuning firm Whifbitz to find out.
Let’s take a closer look at the stats.
Tuned Toyota GR Yaris
The Toyota GR Yaris is a rally-bred hot hatchback which handles supremely well. It’s powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine which as standard puts out 280hp and 390Nm of torque, and this is sent to all four wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox.
Obviously that’s not going to be enough to beat a Lamborghini, so tuning company Whifbitz have fully built this engine and fitted it with a bigger turbocharger. As a result it has 630hp and 430Nm of torque, and it’s also been fitted with a seven-speed sequential manual gearbox. It weighs about the same as a normal Yaris at 1,280kg, and this car plus all the modifications will set you back £130,000.
Lamborghini Aventador SV
Now let’s look at the competition. The Lamborghini Aventador SV has four times the amount of cylinders, and four times the displacement. It has a 6.5-litre naturally-aspirated V12 with 750hp and 690Nm of torque.
This is sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed robotised manual gearbox, and the car tips the scales at 1,525kg – although this is the dry weight so you can add around 100kg to this to account for fuel and fluids. Parking an Aventador SV on your driveway would’ve set you back £240,000 when it was new.
