Manhart BMW M3 v Manhart BMW M2: DRAG RACE

Diehard BMW Fans have no doubt heard of tuning house Manhart. It takes cars from BMW’s already bonkers M division and spices them up with outrageous bodykits and even more power.

We’ve got hold of a BMW M3 Touring and a BMW M2 which have both been tuned by Manhart, and we’re going to race them over the standing quarter mile.

Let’s start with the practical family estate car. The BMW M3 Touring has a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged straight-six engine which usually puts out 510hp and 650Nm of torque, so it’s no slouch.

However this wasn’t enough for Manhart, so it fitted a new ECU, new intakes and new downpipes for the exhaust. As a result the car now has 650hp and 800Nm of torque, going to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

This wagon weighs in at 1,865kg, and the modifications have rather inflated the standard car’s £88,000 price. This particular car will set you back £126,000.

But what if you’re after a slinky coupe? Well the BMW M2 will be more up your street. It uses the same basic 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged engine as the M3, however as standard it puts out 460hp and 550Nm of torque.

Manhart has fitted this car with a new ECU, a carbon intake system and a petrol particulate filter delete. The result is even more power than the M3, it now puts out 715hp and 850Nm of torque, and it’s sent to the rear wheels only via an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

It’s lighter than the M3 as well, tipping the scales at 1,725kg. As standard the BMW M3 will cost you £65,000, however this tuned car will set you back £110,000.
