Mercedes-AMG C63 S v BMW M3 Touring v Audi RS4 Avant: Which is fastest?
June 01, 2024 by John Tallodi
Mat is ready to blast down the dragstrip in a trio of speedy German estates that produce a combined 1,640hp and 2,270Nm.
He has picked the new four-cylinder Mercedes-AMG C63 S Estate to go up against the six-cylinder Audi RS4 Competition and BMW M3 Competition Touring. The AMG has no regular four-cylinder, though; it’s a four-cylinder with a turbo and some electric assistance thrown in for good measure. The result is 680hp and 1,020Nm sent to all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic gearbox. All that clever tech is heavy, and it weighs an SUV-rivaling 2,190kg. That’s almost as heavy as its £99,750 price tag.
The BMW M3 Competition Touring is packing the now familiar 3.0-litre inline-six twin-turbo. Producing 510hp and 650Nm, it also has the benefit of all-wheel drive and is equipped with a slick-shifting eight-speed automatic gearbox. All up weight is 1,865kg, and it costs £88,800.
The Audi RS4 Competition (one of 75 for the UK) has a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 putting out 450hp and 600Nm. That’s less than the BMW, but it also weighs less, at 1,745kg. It has an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. The base price is £84,600.
The Mercedes may have a power advantage, but it’s also the heaviest, so which one will dominate? There’s only one way to find out – as usual, watch the video to find out which of these mega-estates is the fastest from a standstill, in a rolling race, and braking to a stop from 100mph.
