Drag race: Red Bull RB8 Formula 1 car vs McMurtry Spéirling vs Rimac Nevera
August 03, 2023 by Jamie Edkins
Mat’s taken the wheel of the Rimac Nevera for this drag race. It’s powered by four electric motors, one on each wheel, putting out a combined 1,914hp and a whopping 2,340Nm of torque. There’s no gearbox to worry about here, but it is quite heavy at 2,300kg. It’ll also make quite the hole in your wallet, costing £1.7 million.
Let’s take a closer look at the McMurtry. It has dual motors, both powering the rear wheels and putting out 1,000hp. That seems a bit down on the Rimac, but it’s a lot lighter than that car at less than 1,000kg. It also has a clever fan system which provides maximum downforce from a standstill. If you fancy this bonkers hypercar, you’ll have to part with £1 million.
Finally, we have the Red Bull RB8 Formula 1 car from the 2012 season. Powering it is a 2.4-litre naturally-aspirated V8, putting out 800hp. It has a seven-speed sequential gearbox, and it weighs just 630kg.
So the F1 car will almost certainly win the carwow sound check, but how will it fare against these two ballistic electric hypercars? You’ll have to watch the video to find out.
