About Honda
Honda has a deserved reputation for reliable cars and innovative engineering, going back to its earliest days in 1946. Founded by Soichiro Honda, the company started out building motorised bicycles, then motorbikes, before a first foray into four-wheeled vehicles in 1963.
The company has always had a close association with motorsport, both with cars and motorbikes. Honda made the first Japanese car to win a Formula 1 Grand Prix in 1965 and has applied its racing knowledge to rapid road cars, including the NSX supercar.
While it has made many high-performance models, Honda is also known for its sensible, bread-and-butter runabouts which find favour with buyers looking for space, reliability, and an easy drive. The Honda Jazz and Civic are no-nonsense cars that deliver hassle-free ownership.
Honda was one of the last mainstream car makers to add diesel engines to its cars, and one of the first to ditch diesel power as it has fallen out of favour. Today’s Honda range is powered by petrol, petrol-electric hybrid, and fully electric motors.
What our car expert says
“Nobody is better than Honda at being bonkers yet utterly rational at the same time. Take the Honda Civic Type-R. It looks like a spaceship and it’s warp-factor fast, but the Type-R is every bit as reliable as a regular Civic with enough space to make a sensible family car.”
