About Lamborghini

Lamborghini’s story started in 1963 when Ferruccio Lamborghini — boss of his own eponymous tractor-making firm — apparently got into a spat with Enzo Ferrari over an unreliable car he’d been sold. When Enzo fobbed him off, Ferruccio decided to make his own car and the rest is history…

Right back to the start, Lamborghini has made supercars, starting with the front-engined 350GT, but becoming famous for utterly gorgeous mid-engined exotics such as the Miura, Countach, and Diablo. More recently, the likes of the mid-engined V10-powered Huracan (an alternative to Ferrari’s 296 GTB) and the bigger V12 hybrid-engined Revuelto. Then there’s the new V8 hybrid-engined Temerario and, of course, the Urus SUV (which is, kind of, a Volkswagen Touareg under the skin).

Lambo’s future will be interesting indeed. It’s already moving into the electrified era, with hybrid and plug-in hybrid models, and a fully electric Lamborghini will happen — it’s just a question of when, and how do they make it feel sufficiently thrilling.

Lamborghini is nowadays a far more interesting brand than it once was. Previously, it kind of relied on the shock factor of OTT styling to make itself stand out, but now it’s meeting Ferrari and Porsche head-on with some seriously talented cars.

What our car expert says

“Cars like the Lamborghini Huracan are dying out - buy one while you can, before every supercar is made heavy and hybrid.”

Lamborghini FAQs

Lamborghini is part of the Volkswagen Group, and has been since 1998. It’s technically a subsidiary of Audi within the VW Group.

The tractor-making bit of Lamborghini was founded in 1948, but the business was sold in 1973 and is now part of the Deutz-Fahr group. The car-making bit was founded in 1963, but it has been through lots of different owners since, including The Chrysler Corporation and, now, Volkswagen.

It depends on the model. The V10-engined Huracan can hit 201.9mph, while the V12 hybrid Revuelto can get to 217.5mph.

Oddly, it’s not the Urus. Actually the most affordable Lamborghini right now is the Huracan coupe, but hurry — they won’t be making them for much longer.

If we’re talking new car list prices, then a new Revuelto V12 hybrid will cost you the thick end of half-a-million. You can spend a lot more than that with options, of course. Officially the most expensive Lamborghini ever was a Veneno Roadster, which sold at auction for $8.3-million. However, there are rumours that the one-off Egoista single-seater sold for $117-million…
