Is a used Lexus UX a good car?

The Lexus UX is a fairly unusual shape, sitting somewhere between a hatchback and an SUV. Still, its styling makes it stand out from the crowd thanks to Lexus’ typical sharp creases and bold front grille.

The exterior design could be rather polarising, but inside it’s a bit more conventional and feels nice and upmarket. That being said, the infotainment system is one of the most fiddly in any modern car and takes some getting used to.

Something you won’t mind getting used to is the frugal hybrid engine, which can get up to 50mpg if you’re careful. Furthermore, Lexus is renowned for building safe cars, and the UX’s excellent 96% rating for adult occupant protection hasn’t been beaten by many cars.

There are loads of alternatives to consider at a similar price and size to the Lexus UX. The Volvo XC40 is our pick of the bunch, but you could also look at the BMW X1 and Audi Q2.

What to look for when buying a second hand Lexus UX

Lexus isn’t just known for building safe cars, its vehicles are famously reliable, too. The Japanese company regularly sits atop owner satisfaction surveys because its cars rarely go wrong.

As such, you just need to look out for the usual used car stuff, such as inspecting bodywork for any signs of damage (or damage repair), and have a close look at the alloy wheels. Any damage here could be pricey to fix and could have also affected the tyre, increasing the risk of a blowout.

As if you need further peace of mind, Lexus also has one of the best warranties available in the UK, matched only by Toyota, its sister company. All Lexuses get a three-year/60,000-mile warranty as standard, but this is increased by 12 months and 10,000 miles, up to 10 years/100,000 miles, after every annual service. This is transferable between owners, too.
