What is a cabriolet car?

Cabriolet is basically another word for convertible, but it’s usually applied to convertible cars with four seats, rather than two seats.

Why is it called a cabriolet?

Technically, cabriolet just means any car with a roof that folds away, but the word originally comes from French, and was given to two-wheeled horse carriages, which were said to have a springy, bouncy ride, so were named cabriole, which is the French for ‘capering’ because of this.
