Drag race: Chevrolet Corvette vs Ferrari 458 Speciale
April 29, 2022 by Jamie Edkins
America is arguable the land of the drag race, but can good old fashioned US muscle really be a match for an Italian Stallion? Let’s find out.
For today’s drag race, Mat is behind the wheel of a C8 Corvette Stingray. It has a mid-mounted 6.2-litre naturally-aspirated V8 which puts out 482hp and 613Nm of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox with launch control. It’s the heavier of the two cars here, weighing in at 1,655kg.
Taking on the Corvette, we have a Ferrari 458 Speciale. Slung behind the driver is a 4.5-litre naturally-aspirated V8 making 605 hp, 540Nm of torque and a fair amount of noise. Like the Chevrolet, it’s rear-wheel-drive and has a dual-clutch gearbox with launch control. Ferrari only quotes the dry weight for the 458 Speciale, which is 1,395kg. This likely translates to around 1,500kg wet.
So which of these cars will come out on top? You’ll have to watch the drag race to find out.
