Drag race: Mercedes-AMG SLS Black Series vs BMW M3 Competition

Can a 4 door family saloon really be as quick as a full blown specialist AMG sports car? In today’s drag race we find out.
Lining up first we have a Mercedes-AMG SLS Black Series. It has a 6.2-litre naturally aspirated V8 producing 631hp and 635nm of torque. This is delivered in true AMG style to the rear wheels only through a 7-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox. It weighs in at 1,550kg.
Representing the saloon, we have a BMW M3 Competition. Its 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged straight-six kicks out 510hp and 650nm of torque. Power goes through an 8-speed automatic gearbox to the rear wheels. It’s heavier than the Mercedes, coming in at 1,730kg.
