Drag Race: Porsche 911 Carrera vs Porsche 911 GT3
October 07, 2021 by Ryan Hirons
Is less really more? Well, in the case of the Porsche 911, today’s drag race looks to answer that.
Lining up here is the all-singing, all-dancing trackhound 911 GT3 lining up against the not-quite-bargain basement 911 Carrera.
Powering the latter car is a 3.0-litre, twin-turbocharged flat-six engine putting out 385hp and 450Nm of torque, sent to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. It weighs in at 1,505kg.
Unsurprisingly, the 911 GT3 comes in a fair bit less than that at 1,435kg, with more power on tap too from a 4.0-litre naturally-aspirated flat-six engine — 510hp and 470Nm of torque to be exact.
It too drives the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
So the odds may be stacked against the Carrera on paper, but this story of an underdog may have a twist yet. You’ll need to watch on to find out, though…
