Drag race: New Porsche Taycan Turbo GT vs Tesla Model S Plaid vs Audi RS e-tron GT Performance

The new Porsche Taycan Turbo GT is here, and it’s a bit of a beast. It’s actually the most powerful production Porsche ever made, but it’s up against some stiff competition from Tesla and Audi.

To find out how it stacks up, we’ve lined the Taycan up against a Tesla Model S Plaid and the new Audi RS e-tron GT Performance for a drag race. Let’s take a closer look at the stats.

New Porsche Taycan Turbo GT

The new Taycan Turbo GT is powered by two electric motors, one on each axle, which gives it all-wheel drive. In launch mode it puts out a whopping 1,034hp and 1,240Nm of torque. It has a two-speed gearbox for the rear wheels as well to help with power delivery.

Being an EV with a big battery on board this isn’t a light car. It tips the scales at 2,365kg, but you’ll save a bit of weight from your wallet once you’ve parted with £186,300 to buy the car.

Tesla Model S Plaid

The Model S Plaid caused quite a stir when it was launched a few years ago thanks to its tri-motor setup with 1,020hp and 1,420Nm of torque. Like the Porsche, this is sent to all four wheels – but there’s no clever two-speed gearbox here.

It’s a bit lighter than the Taycan as well at 2,190kg, and it’s quite a lot cheaper as well. All-in this car will set you back £115,000.

Audi RS e-tron GT Performance

On paper, the Audi RS e-tron GT Performance appears to be on the back foot. Its dual electric motors put out a combined 925hp and 1,027Nm of torque, and it has the same two-speed gearbox setup as the Porsche Taycan.

The Audi sits right in the middle of its two competitors in terms of weight, coming in at 2,395kg, and it costs just under £144,000.
