Used Porsche cars overview

Porsche is one of the greatest of all automotive brands, and while its used lineup isn’t cheap to buy nor run, they’re also more robust and day-to-day usable than many other high-performance cars.

Popular used Porsche models

Porsche’s used car range runs the gamut from practical family SUVs like the Cayenne and Macan to screaming track-day specials like the 911 GT models.

Used Porsche Taycan

One of the best electric cars yet, the Taycan is sleek, fast, and has solid range. Make sure you get the battery checked before buying, and they’re not very practical in the back, but the Taycan has poise and power that you wouldn’t expect from a battery car.

Used Porsche Macan

Actually an Audi Q5 under the skin, but you’d never know it from the way the Macan tackles corners. You can find relatively affordable 2.0-litre models which make for classy family transport, or exceptionally quick Turbo versions which provide some serious driving thrills.

Used Porsche Cayenne

Like the smaller Macan, you can choose from relatively sensible Cayennes with plug-in hybrid power for family life and commuting, or seriously sporty and rapid Turbo and GTS versions with V8 noise and pin-sharp chassis. Or combine both, and get 680hp into the bargain, with the Turbo S E-Hybrid.

Used Porsche Cayenne Coupe

Slightly sleeker than the taller Cayenne SUV, the Cayenne Coupe has hints of the 911 sports car about its rear styling, but in spite of the lower roof it’s still a practical family wagon.

Used Porsche 911

One of the greatest cars of all time, the Porsche 911 has evolved, since 1963, into one of the best all-round cars on the market. As happy commuting on a wet, wintry morning as it is lapping the circuit at Le Mans. The 911 rule of thumb is the cheaper ones, with the fewest frills, are the best.

Porsche used cars FAQs

Yes — Porsche came fourth overall in the recent Driver Power customer satisfaction survey, and ranked second overall in the reliability and quality category. That said, a high 36% of owners reported issues with their vehicles — a reminder that a Porsche is a specialist car that needs careful maintenance.

Not from new, at least not unless we’re talking about a rare, limited-edition Porsche such as a 911 GT3 RS or S/T model. Most Porsches, like all cars, will decrease in value once purchased, although some Porsche models — the Panamera for instance — have been known to hold on to as much as 63% of their original value after three years, which is way above the market average.

It will depend very much on the model — 911s are inevitably the most sought-after — and the specification. Generally, after enough time, all old Porsches start to rise in value. It’s even happening with the unloved-at-the-time ‘996’ version of the 911 from the early 2000s. Original Boxster values have arguably bottomed out, too. However, if it’s investment you’re after, spend your money on a sympathetically specified classic, and then look after it as if it were made out of glass.
