Drag race: Ford Mustang Mach-E GT vs Ford Mustang V8 GT
July 27, 2022 by Jamie Edkins
Can the all-electric Ford Mustang Mach-E GT prove itself as a ‘proper’ Mustang on the drag strip? Today we’ll find out.
Mat’s behind the wheel of the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT today. It may not have a roaring V8 under the bonnet, but the two electric motors, putting out 487hp and 860Nm of torque. Being an EV though, it’s packed with batteries. As a result, it weighs a hefty 2,198kg.
So let’s talk about the good old-fashioned V8 Mustang GT. Its 5.0-litre naturally aspirated engine puts out 450hp as standard, however that wasn’t enough for the guys over at Clive Sutton. They’ve fitted it with a new exhaust, an intake and a tune, so now it’s pumping out 490hp. Torque is the same as the standard car at 530Nm. This is sent to the rear wheels via a 10-speed automatic gearbox.
You might think the Mach-E GT would walk this, but not so fast. You see, the V8 Mustang is considerably lighter at 1,740kg.
So will the weight advantage be enough? You’ll have to watch the video to find out.
