About Nissan
Nissan dates from the 1930s, but the company can trace its origins back through Datsun. This company started way back in 1911, building its first car in 1914.
Fast forward to 1999, and Nissan was in serious financial trouble. The company was saved by forming an alliance with the French car maker, Renault. The arrangement continues today, with Renault and Nissan models often sharing engines and other technology.
Today, Nissan has become something of an SUV specialist. The Juke is its smallest model in the UK now that the Micra has been discontinued, with the X-Trail being the largest passenger car. Nissan has strong ties with Britain, building the Qashqai, Juke, and Ariya in its Sunderland plant.
What our car expert says
“Nissan has made some brilliant sports cars in the past, but today it focuses on SUVs and electric cars. The Qashqai is Nissan’s most popular model – just about every mainstream manufacturer now has a Qashqai clone in its line-up.”
