About Leapmotor

Leapmotor was founded in 2015 and sold its first car in 2019 - so it’s a positive upstart in car company terms. It’s one of many new companies that’s sprung up out of China, promising to sell high-tech electric cars to European markets.

The giant Stellantis manufacturing group acquired a 20% stake in Leapmotor and began European sales of its models in 2025; while Leapmotor cars don’t currently use any Stellantis components or vice versa, it’s likely that the two companies will share technology between them in a bid to get ahead in the market.

As a result the Leapmotor T03 city car is built at a Fiat plant in Tychy, Poland, and the two companies have promised to launch six new models before the end of the decade, beginning with the T03 and the C10 SUV.

Though it’s early days for Leapmotor, it may be a brand to watch out for, especially if you’re in the market for a good-value electric car.

What our car expert says

“Leapmotor is the latest Chinese company hoping to sell electric cars to European buyers. But with involvement from the Stellantis group, it could well become one of the bigger players rather than fading into insignificance as so many do. The cars don’t look like anything special just yet, but they do have pretty clever battery tech.”

Leapmotor cars FAQs

Leapmotor was born out of Dahua Technology, a Chinese company that produced video surveillance equipment. It’s now a standalone company, but 20% of it is owned by the global Stellantis group. The two companies also have a separate joint venture to sell cars in Europe, of which Stellantis owns 51%.
The Leapmotor T03 starts from just under £16,000, while the Leapmotor C10 costs just over £36,000.
Most Leapmotor cars are built in the firm’s factory in Jinhua, Zhejiang Province in China, but the Leapmotor T03 city car is built for Europe in a Stellantis plant in Tychy, Poland.
Leapmotor vehicles have a four-year, 60,000 mile warranty for the car, with a separate eight-year, 1000,000 mile warranty for the battery pack.
