Drag Race: BMW M4 Competition vs Mercedes AMG C63 S vs Audi RS5
March 26, 2021 by Ryan Hirons
The new BMW M4 Competition has just arrived, and it’s hit the ground running.
This latest version in a long line of high-performance M cars has nailed the driving experience, raw performance and ability to turn heads that fans of the brand have come to love over the years.
That’s all well and good, but how does the M4 Competition compare to a couple of key alternatives? Well, that’s what today’s drag race is looking to find out.
Lining up against the M4 are its two fiercest competitors — the Mercedes-AMG C63 S and the Audi RS5. Picking between them doesn’t look to be an easy task, though.
Each engine is quite different — the M4 uses a 3.0-litre straight-six engine, the C63 a 4.0-litre V8 and the RS6 a 2.9-litre V6. All three have twin-turbochargers and both the M4 and C63 match each other at 510hp. The RS5 lags behind a little at 450hp, but traction is on its side — it sends its grunt to all four wheels rather than just the two at the back.
All use automatic gearboxes, though the C63’s is a nine-speed multi-clutch unit while the M4 and RS6 use eight-speed torque convertors. They’re all in the same ballpark for weight too — the M4 and C63 tip the scales at 1,730kg but the RS5 undercuts both at 1,715kg, despite its all-wheel-drive system.
So then, which of these German brutes will come out on top? You’ll have to watch to find out…
