About Chrysler cars

Chrysler was originally founded in 1925 and was one of North America’s most successful companies. In 1998, it merged with Daimler-Benz - parent company of Mercedes - but was sold again in 2007 and acquired by Fiat in 2014. In 2021, ownership changed once again, and Chrysler is now one of the brands owned and operated by the mammoth Stellantis group.

The brand has sold cars in the UK at various periods through the years, but it’s perhaps best-known for its offerings in the 2000s such as the Voyager people carrier and Crossfire coupe. After Fiat acquired it, the Chrysler badge was applied to Lancia vehicles sold in the UK such as the Ypsilon and Delta.

Chrysler exited the UK market in 2017 and doesn’t show any signs of coming back, but there are still some used cars on the market. Running a Chrysler today doesn’t need to be hugely difficult, as parts supply is plentiful and most of its vehicles are fairly simple - but unless you can get a particularly good price, there are better options available.

What our car expert says

Chrysler FAQs

Chrysler is owned by the Stellantis group - the same company that owns Peugeot, Citroen, Vauxhall, Fiat, Jeep, Alfa Romeo and others.
Chrysler hasn’t sold vehicles in the UK since 2017, but even when they were new Chrysler’s combination of Italian technology and American build quality did not make them particularly dependable vehicles. Buying one nowadays, you should apply the same rigorous examination as you would to any used purchase.
Chrysler no longer sells cars in the UK, but it does build them for other markets. Chrysler in the US sells two MPVs, or minivans - the Pacifica and the Voyager.
