Lamborghini’s story started in 1963 when Ferruccio Lamborghini — boss of his own eponymous tractor-making firm — apparently got into a spat with Enzo Ferrari over an unreliable car he’d been sold. When Enzo fobbed him off, Ferruccio decided to make his own car and the rest is history…

Right back to the start, Lamborghini has made supercars, starting with the front-engined 350GT, but becoming famous for utterly gorgeous mid-engined exotics such as the Miura, Countach, and Diablo. More recently, the likes of the mid-engined V10-powered Huracan (an alternative to Ferrari’s 296 GTB) and the bigger V12 hybrid-engined Revuelto. Then there’s the new V8 hybrid-engined Temerario and, of course, the Urus SUV (which is, kind of, a Volkswagen Touareg under the skin).

Lambo’s future will be interesting indeed. It’s already moving into the electrified era, with hybrid and plug-in hybrid models, and a fully electric Lamborghini will happen — it’s just a question of when, and how do they make it feel sufficiently thrilling. 

Lamborghini is nowadays a far more interesting brand than it once was. Previously, it kind of relied on the shock factor of OTT styling to make itself stand out, but now it’s meeting Ferrari and Porsche head-on with some seriously talented cars.
